You nailed it, Jim. Somehow, people like your dad and the elders I knew could reconcile their sense of personal liberty with forcing others to conform. But then, I've been challenged, too, by cultural changes that I don't get--like some of the ear wear and piercings. I've never tried to force anyone to dress or look like I want them, to, however!
