You have every right to be angry about whatever you want to be angry about, Sheila. Your experience is your experience, the same as mine is mine. My aim is not to induce white guilt. If anyone feels guilty, they can wrestle their conscience over that. And I don’t think guilt is pointless either. It’s too bad our current leader doesn’t have such feelings. Actually, the only thing in your response that bothers me — and here I’m overlooking anyone’s presumptions about what our family maids thought or felt — is the part where you use the word “silly.” That’s pretty demeaning, but again, if that’s what you think, you have your right to it.
