One of the great things about reviewing any year’s Hot 100 Hits is that you’ll remember far more than you’ve ever forgotten, and vice-versa. I would rather not disparage anyone’s favorite songs, and yet when I think about

THE #1 SONG OF 1975

again I have to remind myself that popular people have peculiar tastes, and vice-versa, for how else to understand that a fairly decent song like The Captain and Tennille’s “Love Will Keep Us Together” (written by legendary Neil Sedaka) was 1975’s #1 song, while something like…

Carl Douglas’s “Kung Fu Fighting”

was #14?

And vice-versa.

Seriously, what’s Bowie’s “Fame” doing right in the middle of these at #7; 10cc’s anthem “I’m Not in Love” doing at #42, and Elton John’s “Someone Saved My Life Tonight” doing all the way down at #91?

These were not randomly selected, but their randomness reflects the out-of-control/kilter in the mid-decade of those swinging 70’s. Here’s the complete 100 itself:
