The Moody 1990's
Or maybe that’s just me, today
If only I could tell you all that’s on my mind today as I research the best albums of the 1990’s, my favorites in a decade where Twin Peaks blew my mind, both of my daughters were born, and I realize I must have fallen asleep with angels and Siamese Dreams and everything Wilco produced.
I’m trying not to hindsight and totally reassess my favorite albums, but some of you have set me thinking about all that I missed as I floated through the night with Americana, and synth bands who soothed a newborn father’s soul. So thanks to Anthony Overs and others, I’ve been able to learn just how good a band like Teenage Fanclub is. I hope I can read all of my notes, and while I do, I’m listening to everything from Harry Styles (by the time you’ll read this you’ll have either joined or missed today’s Riff Album discussion of Harry’s House so thanks or sorry), Massive Attack to Slowdive, Blur, Oasis, and even Suzanne Vega, because sometimes a great or fave album is entirely due to one song about a place I’ve seen.
As usual, my favorite album of that particular year will be bolded. And do think of me tonight or last night as I deal with what many of you, sadly, have likely already had to face about someone you never really knew well but should have, or at least should have seen coming.
