The Isaac Hayes cover helped me realize that Soul had more than its pop identity--something decidedly haunting and, not exactly unfriendly, just deeper, like all those shadows I walked past on my own mixed neighborhood street back in Alabama. Mixed in the sense that one street marked a line, and we all crossed a bit. Thanks man. Great stuff. Beyonce, And Dionne--it helps to trace back and forward so we don't forget and continue journeying.
