My favorite “rain songs”

Since I love rain and music, when Paul Combs challenged Plethora of Pop readers to write about this combo I felt the weighted black cloud of his expectations.

Paul! I still can’t believe you stole “Kentucky Rain” from me in your original story:

So unfair. Ever since, especially last night when I couldn’t sleep perhaps because Silas House’s incredible Kentucky-based novel Clay’s Quilt wouldn’t let me rest with all its Kentucky snow, I’ve been thinking of rain songs and hoping to spoil someone else’s good time. I’m actually in Tennessee right now, so enough of Kentucky.

I’ve thought of so many rain or storm songs since Paul’s challenge, and so I’m going to try to limit myself to five, depending on how well my brain holds up on this sunny morning in a hotel room far far away.

First up is a singer who moved me away from the windows of my sound mind some fifty-odd years ago:
