Bessemer seemed harmlessly Methodist, but the Baptist presence was strong. In my youth church basketball league, we played a different Baptist church every week--there was a First Christian Church team too. Part of what turned me off, though, were these inter-denominational rivalries: people thinking their way was the better, and then, the ONLY way. On a slightly related note, I used to shudder when the JW's came calling, but they were persecuted during the Holocaust--refusing to bow to the swastika--and they have excellent material on that era.
