For this edition of Rate-A-Record, let’s head back to 1969, the year I turned 13. How old were you in that year? What music do you remember, and did you know that the #1 song for that year, according to Billboard Magazine’s Hot 100 year-end survey was…

“Sugar Sugar,” by The Archies?

Did you know that coming in nine places later was “Crimson and Clover” by Tommy James and the Shondells? Or that 24 places out of the number one slot was The Beatles’ “Get Back?”

Now, I’m not here to trash popular tastes, because truth be known, I owned all three of these singles. Sure, I would have ranked Crimson #1, but so what? No one asked me back then, or even now, and it’s all fun and games in this Rate-A-Record musical society, right?
